Fees & Rebates
Complete Children’s Health is a private paediatric practice, which operates on a fee-for-service basis. Accounts are payable on the day of your consultation by cash, EFTPOS or credit card.
Paediatric consultations are eligible for a medicare rebate if your child has a valid Doctor’s referral.
GP referrals to specialists are usually valid for 12 months. Beyond 12 months, or for a new problem, you should obtain a new referral prior to your consultation in order to be able to claim appropriately through Medicare.
At our practice we offer Medicare online claiming which enables you to have your rebate paid into your nominated bank account within two to three working days. Forms are available at the practice or online at Medicare Australia.
Families who are registered for the Medicare Safety Net will be able to claim 80% of the out of pocket cost of the consultation fee, once the threshold has been reached.
New rebates were introduced through medicare in July 2008 for the assessment, diagnosis and management of Autism Spectrum Disorders for children aged 13 and younger.
See the Department of Health and Ageing for more details.
Once a diagnosis is confirmed, a medicare rebatable autism planning consultation is arranged (this is known as an Item 135 which can be claimed once only).
At this point the Paediatrician can refer for up to 20 treatment sessions with the speech pathologist, occupational therapist and/or psychologist which will also attract medicare benefits.
